You're only wearing 10% of your clothes--here's my go-to for choosing what goes...

A 2016 ClosetMaid survey found the average woman has 103 items of clothing in her closet, but only wears 10%. I know this is totally true based upon our clients in the DMV and in my own closet.

If you truly get honest with yourself and ask what actually feels comfortable…now…not a future self, or a prior self…it eliminates so much choice fatigue and that feeling of letting yourself down. You can see all the items you actually love and so many studies have shown the paradox of choice is real.

The paradox of choice shows time and again that while we might believe that having multiple options actually makes it easier to choose one that we are happy with, and thus increases consumer satisfaction, having an abundance of options actually requires more effort to make a decision and can leave us feeling unsatisfied with our choice.

Also, with the “feeling comfortable” if an item is too tight, or itchy or scratchy, or stained or torn, are you going to feel your best self wearing it in public? I know I don’t.

Using this principle has really helped me and our clients and it doesn’t matter which side of the Potomac from Bethesda to Great Falls. It works to start smaller and then each time you edit, you’ll want to do more and more.

Share with a friend that you could set up a declutter date with👌and let me know what you think if you use this and feel as relieved as I did when I dropped my donations off 🤗
